Certificate of Advanced Study in Enterprise Technology Leadership

The CAS in Enterprise Technology Leadership (ETL) is a 15-credit, graduate-level certificate featuring an interdisciplinary curriculum designed by the School of Information Studies and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The ETL certificate fits the needs of working professionals in a variety of fields who are working toward or aspire to be in technology leadership roles. The ETL certificate is also designed to assist companies in cultivating technology leadership within their organization.

Coursework:

Required Core Coursework – 6 credits

All students must take Leadership in Organizations or Strategic Management and Managing Information Systems or Introduction to Data Science.

Electives – 9 Credits

Students must choose three electives from one of the following Disciplinary Areas:

Certificate of Advanced Study in School Media

The CAS in School Media is a 21-credit certificate program for those who already possess an accredited master’s degree in library and information science and want certification as a school library media specialist.

Students must first undergo a thorough review of their graduate library science degree transcript to determine if the core graduate and undergraduate course requirements have been fulfilled. If all requirements have not been met, additional courses will be required.

Coursework:

Required Core Coursework – 18 credits

Exit Requirements – 3 Credits

  • Fieldwork
  • School Media Practicum

Electives – 3 credits (if waived from any above courses)

Fieldwork:

Students are required to satisfy 100 hours of fieldwork experience in K-12 schools:

  • 50 hours in an elementary setting and 50 hours in a secondary setting
  • Some experience in urban, suburban, and rural schools if possible, at least one in a high needs district
  • Minimum of 15 hours working with students with special needs


All fieldwork must be achieved through two 50-hour experiences, each completed during the course of a quarter. Of these hours, 15 must be with students with special needs. It is the student’s responsibility to document all fieldwork and submit documentation at the time of certification. This documentation is done by filing a Learning Agreement and a Record of Fieldwork form for each site where fieldwork is completed. Hours completed prior to approval of the Learning Agreement will not be counted.
