The Student Experience

The Student Experience

The iSchool@Syracuse programs feature a unique balance between advanced technology, face-to-face interaction, and in-person collaboration. You will benefit from the flexibility of online learning while also forming lifelong connections with your classmates and faculty.

As an online student, you will be fully immersed in the iSchool community and have access to the same resources and services as on-campus students.

Online Learning

iSchool@Syracuse uses advanced technology that ensures the main focus of your experience is on learning and forming connections.

Live Class Sessions

Each week you will join your classmates and professors face-to-face in an online classroom. Class sizes are kept small for open discussions about the week’s coursework.

The online classroom features:

  • High-quality audio and video
  • Screen sharing capabilities
  • Live annotation tools
  • Customizable classroom configurations

You will have access to all class recordings for reference throughout the program and for the rest of your career, long after graduation.

Engaging Coursework

Throughout each week you will complete multimedia coursework, on your own time, in preparation for live class discussions. Our faculty members work directly with world-class content developers to turn traditional assignments into content that is custom made for the online learning environment.

Course content includes:

  • Videos
  • Lecture recordings
  • Interactive media projects

All coursework is self-paced, so it can be completed on your own time, from any Internet-enable device.

Virtual Campus

All of your coursework, live classes, and peer contacts can be accessed through the iSchool’s virtual online campus, where you can

  • establish iSchool community connections,
  • track and manage coursework and classes,
  • find and join specialized social groups, and
  • view grades and upcoming events.

The online campus is also accessible via the iSchool’s mobile application. Through the iSchool mobile app, you can download and complete coursework from your mobile device when an Internet connection is not available.

“The chance to collaborate face-to-face with my classmates and professors has been one of the absolute best parts of the online classroom setup. Whether it’s through class discussions, group projects, spirited debates, or breakout groups, I truly feel like I have gotten to know so many of my peers and have formed friendships and connections with people all over the country.”

—Alyxandria Smith, MLIS Student

Once enrolled, the iSchool’s student success team can help acclimate you to the virtual campus and offer technical support.

In addition, a student success advisor will offer personalized support and assist you with both academic and non-academic matters.

Graduation and Alumni Network

When you complete your degree program, you will be invited to join your peers for commencement ceremonies on the Syracuse University campus. You will also become a full member of our global alumni network.
