Student Experience Overview
Since we began offering online learning opportunities in 1993, the iSchool community has pushed the boundaries of what it means to learn online. Our student-centered approach allows you to grow your personal and professional connections as you gain skills to manage information in the 21st century.
No matter where you are in the world, iSchool@Syracuse offers you the same degrees as students who attend on campus. Even as an online student, you will be fully immersed in the iSchool community and have access to the same resources and services as on-campus students.
All online programs from the iSchool feature:
Live Class Sessions
Each week, you will join your classmates and professors in an online classroom for open discussions about the week’s coursework.
- Webcam-enabled, face-to-face interactions
- Small classes for candid discussions
- Class recordings available 24/7, for life
All iSchool instructors are formally trained in the unique aspects of teaching online. Their expertise in connecting students from all over the world helps drive immersive classroom experiences.
Throughout each week, you will complete multimedia coursework on your own time in preparation for live class discussions. Our faculty members work directly with world-class content developers to turn traditional assignments into content that is custom made for the online learning environment.
Course content includes videos, lecture recordings, and interactive media projects. All coursework is self-paced, so it can be completed on your own time 24/7, from any Internet-enable device.
Immersive Virtual Campus
All of your coursework, live classes, and peer contacts can be accessed through the iSchool’s unique online campus. On this platform, you will create a personal and professional profile to connect with classmates and professors.
- Establish iSchool community connections
- Track and manage coursework and classes
- Find and join specialized social groups
- View grades and upcoming events
The online campus is also accessible via the iSchool’s mobile application. The iSchool mobile app offers all the functionality of the online campus and even allows you to download and complete coursework from your mobile device when an Internet connection is not available.
During your time as a student, you will have the opportunity to join your classmates and professors in person for immersive learning experiences. Immersions allow you to meet and collaborate with your peers, learn from guest speakers who are industry experts, and participate in collaborative workshops. You will be required to attend at least one immersion during your degree program.
